Love astronomical twilight - the heat of the day still evaporating off the desert playa as the cooling sky shifts hues into a star field.

These are a few shots of a new piece I've been working on in the studio this week. It is a larger (30x30") and more embellished version of a 6x6" collage-painting sketch, Night Playa I did last year. That sketch sold almost immediately via Collector Art at San Francisco Airport.

Looking to take some successful sketches into a larger scale, I was drawn to the Colbalt blues and vermillion red-orange color combination along with the strong diagonals and vertical lines in that small composition. But this time around, I wanted the challenge of purely painting the textures, using NO collage elements and yet retaining the same look as the work I'm best known for. I think its going well and I'm quite excited about this drifting journey back to painting after 8 years working in mixed media collage-painting.  It's not that I'm giving up collage just yet though. It's still an important step in my process.
