I aim to capture the shifting geology of the landscape through layered, textural paintings made with acrylics and crushed minerals like mica, marble dust and volcanic sand in luminous works that reflect the raw beauty and deep time of the American West.
My paintings are the result of a distinctive artistic practice that not only reflects the geological forces of erosion and formation in mountain and desert regions, but also reenacts them. I apply paints and then distress them with ground water and sanding tools to mimic the impact of wind, water and climate on landscape surfaces.
My work blurs boundaries between painting and geology, between observation and imagination. Creating portals into a landscape that are both grounded and otherworldly. The resulting paintings are landscapes that invite us to slow down, look closely, and reflect on the timeless rhythm of earth, water, and stone.
