COASTLINES ~ A New Series
Coastal Range, 60x60” Acrylic on Panel. 2026. Foster / White Gallery
I came here to count the bells
that live upon the sea,
that sound over the sea,
within the sea.
So, here I live.
~Pablo Neruda, from his poem: Here (The Sea and the Bells)
I’ve been feeling a strong creative tug towards the sea, the aquatic blues, bronze tans of wet beaches, golden hues of speckled light through coastal mists. The rhythmic sound of surf pounding the shore. An intuitive, instinctive pull towards a this painting motif that I just can no longer ignore. So…
Say hello to COASTLINES 🌊
A series I’m revisiting after an absence of about 12 years and currently in its exciting early stages. I envision these paintings to take me on a creative journey to the Pacific Coast, Tropical Islands, Florida Coast, West Coast, Gulf Coast, Puget Sound, Inland seas of the Americas. I have a collection of nature’s coastal bounty growing in my studio from various beach combing adventures over the years that I plan to incorporate these into new paintings. Items such as crushed Appalachian rock that form the white powdered shores of the panhandle of Florida’s Gulf shores. Pink shells from Siesta Key near Sarasota, FL. Sea glass and agates from the Puget Sound. Nephrite Jade stones, redwood driftwood and abalone shells from Big Sur, CA. I’m eager to add more items to my collections and use them as a way to connect deeper to the places depicted and create moments of discovery in each piece for the viewer.
Check out this new 60x60” (above) constructed as a triptych (on three panels) for the first time! This piece depicts coastal landforms painted with textures copied from found river rocks.
You can spot some of my coastal paintings now in Carmel, CA at Gallery MAR Carmel and coming June 4th to the Foster / White Gallery in Seattle, WA for my upcoming solo exhibition. Also browse “Coastlines” on my website. New works will be added as they come to fruition.
