Coastal Range
The Coastal Range series capture the dramatic meeting of mountains, shoreline, and geologic time through a layered, collage‑inspired style. Winkler builds each composition like a cross‑section of terrain—stacking pigments, textures, and mineral-inspired patterns to echo erosion, sedimentation, and tectonic uplift. Her Coastal Range works, in particular, distill the Pacific Coast’s rugged cliffs and turquoise surf into luminous bands of color and sharply defined strata, emphasizing the coastline as both mystical and raw, where “rugged mountains dive abruptly into the sea”. Winkler transforms natural processes into visual rhythm: hard‑edged silhouettes of peaks, shimmering water reflections, and atmospheric gradients that evoke fog, salt air, and shifting light. The result is a body of work that feels simultaneously ancient and contemporary—an homage to the Pacific Coast’s geologic story and a meditation on landscapes as ever‑changing, living systems.
