Silver Summits
Drawing from the silver boom that shaped the Rocky Mountains in the mid-19th century, these contemporary paintings reimagine the Mountain West with a fresh perspective. Silver-toned backgrounds and veining emphasize the mineral-rich veins that once lured miners in search of fortune. Today, many of these landscapes have evolved into world-class ski resorts or protected wilderness areas, depicted with a deep respect for their untamed grandeur.
These acrylic works strip away color to focus on the stunning interplay of light, shadow, and texture within the landscape. Influenced by Ansel Adams’ legendary black-and-white photography of the American West, the surfaces—enhanced with crushed minerals—invoke both the vintage feel of silver gelatin prints and the sharp contrast of modern monochrome photography, merging history and innovation in each piece.
