A stone is a rock that has been fashioned or shaped or has a purpose.
Using a collection of river rocks found on the gravel banks of major Western American river watersheds, Winkler identifies her finds and recreates their patterns in her “River Rock” compositions. Each rock tells the geological story of landscape formation near and far from the collection site.
