MOUNTAIN GOLD
This luminous series draws a deep connection to the Gold mineral found abundantly in the veins of the Rocky Mountains. Living in the Front Range of the Colorado Rockies, I had the chance to visit the historic Capital Prize Mines and descend into a gold mine shaft centuries old and still in use today. Witnessing the shimmering snakes of gold veins in the dark tunnels deep within the belly of the mountain was truly unforgettable and led to the spark to create a golden hued collection of mountainscape paintings.
These paintings rest upon a satin gold background, creating a striking contrast with the earthy tones of the imagery. The luminous foundation enhances the layers above, allowing the geological imagery to emerge with an aura of richness and depth. The integration of minerals such as Fools Gold, Pyrite, Gold Mica Flake, obsidian, and mica iron oxide lends a unique vibrancy and texture to the works. These elements serve not only as a tribute to the riches sought during the Gold Rush but also as a reminder of the geological history written in the rock surfaces and the allure of the mountain west lifestyle today.
