Winter Rockies

Available Work, Sold Work

The Winter Rocky Mountain series of paintings connect us from the depths of the inner Mountain to the vast star filled Universe under bright bluebird blue, foggy grey or dark night skies. Ten winters spent at 9k in the Colorado Front Range Rockies has allowed me the opportunity to observe the patterns of nature up close as the lands falls dormant into hibernation.

The work drifts naturally to a cooler palette in winter and glows with mica infused pigments, minerals and marble dust deposited into the layers of paint. The radiant soft hues of snowlight over granite peaks and dazzling textures of the frozen waterways and frosted forest floors meander within snowcapped mountainscapes. All the while chasing that elusive last light of the Winter Solstice. It is a place of jagged stone spires conjured into scenes imaginable in the stuff of fairy tales.

Winter Peaks, 48x48” Acrylic on Panel. 2022

Winter Peaks captures the stark beauty of snow-covered mountain summits under a crisp, clear sky. The painting showcases layered textures that mimic the rugged terrain and icy formations, blending cool blues and whites with subtle earth tones. Bold, sweeping brushstrokes convey the vastness and stillness of the winter landscape, while sharp contrasts emphasize geological details. This piece reflects a modern interpretation of the American West’s alpine regions, balancing realism with abstracted forms to invite deeper contemplation of nature’s quiet power and resilience.
